Happy Birthday Singers

HAPPY BIRTHDAY!  Ashley Veldkamp visited Kalamazoo Orthodontics to get started with braces on her birthday and was serenaded with impromptu singing . . . we hope these folks didn't scare her away (hint - don't quit your day-jobs for a singing career just yet).  Ashley made points with Dr. Bowman by telling him that she wanted braces for her birthday.

Grand Champion

Kalamazoo Orthodontics Kids Club member, Anya Butler won some serious honors at the recent Van Buren Youth Fair including Reserve Grand Champion and Grand Champion for Dairy Feeder Calfs among other awards.  We're proud of her!

Famous Ancestor

How cool is that? Kalamazoo Orthodontics' Kids Club member, Mady Harroun has a famous ancestor. Dr. Bowman was excited to discover that her great uncle was Ray Harroun - the very first winner of the Indianapolis 500 back in 1911! The "Little Professor" drove his iconic yellow Marmon Wasp to victory without the typical ride-along mechanic--because of his innovation of using a "rear-view" mirror. His Wasp is on display at the Indy Speedway museum.

AcceleDent DownUnder - Reducing orthodontic discomfort with AcceleDent instead of medications.

Many orthodontic patients have now abandoned paracetamol and other analgesics in favour of AcceleDent for reducing dental discomfort following an adjustment or a change of aligner trays. It's always fun to see our patients out and about. We spotted lovely Kirsten Taylor at work at the movies (Kalamazoo 10). She was prepared for Dr. Bowman to spill popcorn as he is prone to do.

Contact Sports and Braces

Football season is on the horizon . . . Nicholas Margol is getting ready the right way by asking us for a mouthguard.  Braces need to be protected with a mouthguard (but not a “molded” one!).  Can you wear braces and play sports?  Certainly!

Brett Favre and Terrell Davis both won Super Bowl’s with braces on.  David “The Admiral” Robinson played for NBA basketball and Mike Modano skated in the NHL with braces. 

Nicholas is wearing Invisalign TEEN instead of metal braces, but wearing a mouthguard is still critical for athletes with or without braces!

Getting to Know Team KO Better

GETTING TO KNOW TEAM KO BETTER.  Hello! I'm Hollie and I'm one of the newest members of the KO team! I work upfront as one of our scheduling coordinators, so I will be one of the first friendly faces you see when you come through our doors. I have more than 10 years in customer service and I most recently came from a pediatric office. The move from babies to smiles has been exciting for me! I can't wait to experience all there is to learn in the world of Orthodontics, watching our patients grow in confidence with their new smiles. It has been obvious that I couldn't have chosen a better team than Kalamazoo Orthodontics to help me along the way!

I grew-up in Three Rivers, but currently live in Portage, where I moved with my husband and two wonderful children just over a year ago.  We love our new location and all of the fun that the area brings. When we aren't at home, we enjoy biking, hiking, baseball games, traveling and just enjoying our quality time together. Some of my hobbies/likes include traveling, running, reading, trying different foods from around the world, and photography. KO Kid's Club Member, Hayden Bigelow, was crowned the DUKE of the Van Buren County Youth Fair. Bigelow, of Lawton, is a member of the Porter Busy Fingers 4-H Club. In addition to taking still exhibits to the Van Buren Youth Fair, he shows rabbits. His hobbies include swimming, fishing and video games and we're proud of him!

Hi, I'm Carrie.

Hello, I am Carrie and I am a Scheduling Coordinator at Kalamazoo Orthodontics. So, you will see me as one of the friendly faces that you first encounter when visiting our practice. I really enjoy helping people feel comfortable and at home as I have been in the Customer Service field for almost twenty years. Most recently, prior to joining Team KO, I worked in a Veterinary Practice. Although the world of Orthodontics is still relatively new to me, I’ve been learning quickly. I look forward to meeting and helping all of Dr. Bowman’s patients and their families as I learn more of the ins and outs of the orthodontic world! 

I am a Kalamazoo native as well as a graduate of Portage Northern High School (Go Huskies!). My husband and I had lived in Chicago (Go Bears!) for three years, but eventually moved back to Michigan and bought a house in Kalamazoo. We share our home with the most spoiled dog in the world, Noah, and spend a lot of our free time visiting our horse, Malley, who lives at a friend’s farm in Schoolcraft. I’m thrilled to introduce new and prospective patients to our unique orthodontic practice and help them with their first steps toward a beautiful smile!
