On Tour with Los Lobos

What does your friendly neighborhood orthodontist do for fun?  Well, once in awhile he get the unique opportunity to hook-up with the band, Los Lobos, on-tour and hang-out with them for a few gigs.  Dr. Bowman's brother, John, is wearing a conspicuous white shirt . . . visible at the right of the screen (on-stage by the stage monitor mixer).  There is someone standing next to him with red shoelaces - that's your wirebender/music fan. Very special thanks to our friends in Los Lobos for permitting us to travel with with them for 3 nights again.

Vintage Cabbage Patch Smile!

Mindy Hayward was one of our first patients, many moons ago.  She returned with the Cabbage Patch doll that Dr. Bowman "braced" for her when she was a young patient.  He created the real braces that he applied to her doll when she was wearing her own.  Mindy has a great smile as a result of her treatment - the doll is still wired-up!

Golden Molar Award

University of Toronto's Rita Bauer recently spent a day with Team KO to improve our clinical photography skills.  Rita is regarded as one of the world's experts on medico-dental photography and she is an entertaining and exceptional teacher.  We look forward to her return  in July to provide an evening course that Kalamazoo Orthodontics is sponsoring for our dental colleagues!

Orthodontic History

New Addition to the KO Library.  Special thanks to Jean DiPaolo, daughter of a former chairman at Fairleigh Dickinson orthodontic program, who gifted a 2-volume set of books to us by Dr. Bernhard Weinberger entitled, "Orthodontics: An Historical Review of Its Origin and Evolution."  These books were published in 1926 and are in excellent condition.  His history of orthodontics goes back to its ancient origins, up to the time of specialization, and includes all of the appliances, devices, and innovators.  Trivia - Were you aware that Orthodontics was the 1st dental specialty and second in all of medicine (only Ophthalmology beat us but not by much)?
