Slated for a global launch later this year, Hu-Friedy’s Clear Collection of transparent orthodontic aligner instruments provides four designs that reportedly aid in accenting, individualizing and optimizing the in-office clear aligner’s biomechanics.
Designed in partnership with thought-leader Dr. S. Jay Bowman, DMD MSD, the instruments in the clear collection are said to help streamline the treatment process, offering functions that allow for simpler in-office adjustments and alterations. Instruments offered include:
- The Tear Drop produces a notch at the clear aligner’s gingival margin where elastic hooks are required within the arch. Additionally, it offers a reservoir that holds the elastics in place, allowing the patient to more easily manage elastics.
- The Vertical focuses on the over-correction of rotation by creating an indentation at the tooth’s mesial or distal angles.
- The Horizontal produces an indentation to accent individual root torque, enhancing the retention of the clear aligner through placement into a tooth’s undercut or underneath a bonded attachment.
- The Hole Punch makes a half-moon cutout to reduce the tension of clear aligners around bonded buttons used for elastics. Additionally, it nips away at plastic to offer clearance for soft tissue impinging on the aligner.
