Dr. S. Jay Bowman was again invited to provide a lecture for the American Association of Orthodontists. This, the 113th Annual Session, was held in Philadelphia. Dr. Bowman addressed the methods and procedures to correct Class II bites, also commonly known as "overbites." The tongue-in-cheek title of the talk was "Interrupting Dentoalveolar Compensation: Deja Moo All Over Again" and the presentation was filled with plenty of "interrupting cows." The intent of the old knock-knock joke was to catch the audience's attention to remember the biologic changes that actually occur during the correction of these types of bites for growing patients.
He also demonstrated a number of appliances and mechanisms along with their individual limitations, while suggesting improvements. He also again described his invention, the Horseshoe Jet as he introduced the concept of AcceleDent, accentuated molar distalization. His enthusiasm and passion once again did 'occasionally' shine through during his presentation to the orthodontic audience . . . . .
